Steven Paul McAffee




1942 ~ 2013



Steven Paul McAffee, 71, passed away on May 20, 2013. Steve was born March 20, 1942 in Provo, Utah. He was the first born child of Paul Gust and Virginia Rose Burningham McAffee. He loved his three younger sisters and took very good care of them. He enjoyed being a big brother.



As a boy Steve participated in the Little League World Series in 1953. He loved baseball. When his son and grandson played he enjoyed coaching and helping out. He was proud that he earned his Eagle Scout. He also enjoyed his paper route for the Daily Herald; this started his long career with the newspaper business. He kept his route even when he could drive.



He attended schools in Provo, Utah. He bragged that he graduated high school twice, first from B Y High and then Provo High School in 1960. After graduation he went into the Coast Guard Reserve.



He was always patriotic and proud of his service as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard. He was stationed at the Monterey Life Boat Station and Point Reyes Lighthouse. He was a mechanic and fireman while serving in the Coast Guard. He received an honorable discharge in 1964. He also was a member of the American Legion for 25 years.



On September 3, 1965 he married his sweet wife Marcia Lee Barney in Provo, Utah. Together they had lots of fun dragging center in many of his hot cars. In 1970 they welcomed a son, Martin and seven years later were blessed with a daughter Lacy.



Steve loved to work. He started out as a paper boy for the Daily Herald. Then he took a job in the circulation room at age 17. In 1963 a job opening in the press room intrigued him and he was there until 2002. After "retiring" from the newspaper business he took a job as a courier for UVRMC. He was there for five years. He then took a job at Capital Community Bank and was still working there at the time of his passing. He loved his job at the bank with his daughter Lacy. He also loved his small business ventures as the co-owner of Campus Ski and Cycle and G&S Ice.



Steve loved cars. At one time he owned 11 and was told he had to get a dealers license if he purchased more. His favorites were his 57 Chevy Nomad, and the 57 & 63 Corvettes. It's hard to pick a favorite, but the 1965 GMC truck, restored with his son is most special. He enjoyed meeting up with his buddies from the Gents Car Club.



Steve loved bluegrass music, but his favorite was Johnny Cash. Steve loved to tell the story of when he rode the white roller coaster at Lagoon with Johnny Cash. If you wanted to find Steve you could find him at Joe's Spic N Span or Nate's diner with all his coffee buddies. He loved history and was a member of the Utah Historical Society.



He is survived by his wife, Marcia Lee & children Marty S. McAffee and Lacy G. (Nate) Fife all of Provo. His Sisters Rosemarie McAffee and Kathleen Virginia Smith both of Provo. His three grandchildren Coby Josiah Salazar, Cannon Tay McAffee and Cassidy Marie Fife. He is preceded in death by his parents & younger sister Suzanne Alice McAffee Huff. Steve loved his nieces and nephews. He was happy to help them and considered them his children.



Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 noon, Friday, May 24, 2013 at the Provo Elks Lodge #849, 1000 South University Ave. Provo, Utah. Friends may call at the Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 East Center Street, Thursday, May 23, from 6-8 pm and Friday at the Elks Lodge one hour prior to services. Interment, Provo City Cemetery.
